The Challenge

Your competitor just raised a $50M Series C and your sales team found out from a prospect. Staying on top of competitor funding moves, headcount changes, and major announcements shouldn't require someone checking Crunchbase every morning. You need a system that monitors and alerts automatically.

What This Prompt Does

Funding Monitoring

Pull latest funding data for every competitor from Crunchbase

News Detection

Search Google for recent announcements not yet in Crunchbase

Slack Alerts

Post a formatted competitive intel summary to your team channel

Trend Logging

Append data to Google Sheets for historical comparison

The Prompt

The Prompt

Task

Given a list of competitors, pull their latest funding data from Crunchbase, check Google for recent funding announcements, and post a formatted summary to a Slack channel. Optionally log everything to a Google Sheet for historical tracking.

Tools

  • @Crunchbase/Get Organization — Pull funding rounds, total raised, employee count, IPO status, and investors for each competitor
  • @google_search — Find recent funding news, press releases, and announcements not yet reflected in Crunchbase
  • @Slack/Send Message — Post a formatted competitive intelligence update to your team's Slack channel
  • @Google Sheets/Append Row — Log each competitor's data to a spreadsheet for trend tracking over time

Input

The user will provide a list of competitor company names and a Slack channel name. Optionally, they can provide a Google Sheets spreadsheet ID for logging.

Example: "Check funding updates for Gong, Chorus, Clari, and Revenue.io. Post the summary to #competitive-intel."

Context

What to Check

For each competitor, pull:

  • Total funding raised to date
  • Most recent funding round (type, date, amount if available)
  • Current employee range
  • Key investors (especially new ones)
  • IPO status changes

Then search Google for:

  • "[Company name] funding round" in the last 30 days
  • "[Company name] acquisition" in the last 30 days
  • Any leadership changes or major announcements

Alert Criteria

Flag a competitor as "notable update" if any of the following are true:

  • New funding round in the last 90 days
  • Employee count range changed from last check
  • IPO status changed
  • Major news found via Google (acquisition, pivot, layoff)

Slack Message Format

Post a single message with all competitors, using this structure:

  • Header with date
  • One section per competitor with key metrics
  • A highlighted section for any notable updates
  • A one-line takeaway for the sales team

What Counts as a Valid Result

  • Use real Crunchbase data only — don't fabricate numbers
  • If a company has no Crunchbase profile, note it as "Not tracked on Crunchbase"
  • Clearly label data that came from Google news vs. Crunchbase
  • Include the data timestamp so the team knows how fresh the intel is

Output

Competitive Intel Update — [Date]

For each competitor: | Field | Value | |-------|-------| | Company | ... | | Total Raised | ... | | Last Round | ... | | Employees | ... | | Key Investors | ... | | Notable Update | Yes/No — [detail] |

Slack Status: Posted to #[channel-name]

Sheet Status: [X] rows appended (if spreadsheet provided)

Sales Takeaway: One paragraph on what these updates mean for your team's positioning — who is gaining momentum, who might be vulnerable, and where to focus.

Example Usage

Try asking:

  • "Check funding updates for Gong, Chorus, Clari, and Revenue.io. Post to #competitive-intel."
  • "Track Salesforce, HubSpot, and Pipedrive funding and headcount changes. Alert #sales-team."
  • "Run a weekly competitor check on Stripe, Adyen, and Square. Post highlights to #biz-intel and log to my sheet."
