What to Search For
Track these categories of press coverage:
- Earned media: articles where journalists mention your brand organically
- Press release pickups: how widely your announcements spread
- Executive mentions: coverage quoting or referencing leadership
- Product reviews and comparisons where your brand appears
- Industry roundups that include your company
Search Strategy
- Search NewsCatcher with
ORG_entity_nameset to the brand andinclude_nlp_data: trueto get sentiment and named entities for each article - Run a second search with any key executive names or product names as the query
- Check Latest Headlines for any trending coverage in your industry vertical (use the relevant theme filter)
- Google Search for "[brand] press release" and "[brand] review" to catch non-news-outlet coverage
- For each article found, extract the journalist name from the
journalistsorauthorsfield - Use Apollo Search People to find email and LinkedIn for journalists who covered you (for follow-up and relationship building)
- Append each media hit to Google Sheets: Date, Outlet, Journalist, Headline, Sentiment, Reach (via source domain), Link
What Counts as a Valid Result
- Only count articles where the brand is a meaningful subject, not passing mentions in a long list
- Use the NLP
ner_PERfield to identify which people are mentioned alongside the brand - Track both the title sentiment and content sentiment separately since headlines can be misleading
- Note the source domain for each hit so PR teams can gauge outlet quality
