Authentication

To authenticate, you'll need an Exa API key. Sign up at exa.ai and find your API key in the Exa dashboard.

Search the web using Exa's AI-powered search engine. Returns relevant results with titles, URLs, publication metadata, and optional full-text content.

Operation Type: Query (Read)

Parameters:

  • query string (required): The search query to execute
  • numResults number: Number of results to return (1-100). Default: 10
  • type string: Search mode. Options: "auto" (default, Exa chooses), "fast" / "instant" (prioritize speed), "deep-lite" / "deep" / "deep-reasoning" (thorough research)
  • category string (nullable): Content category filter. Options: "company", "publication", "news", "personal site", "financial report", "people". Default: null (no filter)
  • includeDomains array of strings: Only return results from these domains (e.g., ["techcrunch.com"]). Default: []
  • excludeDomains array of strings: Exclude results from these domains. Default: []
  • startPublishedDate string (nullable): Return results published on or after this date (ISO 8601, e.g. "2024-01-01"). Default: null
  • endPublishedDate string (nullable): Return results published on or before this date (ISO 8601, e.g. "2024-12-31"). Default: null
  • includeText boolean: Include the full text content of each result page. Default: false

Returns:

  • results array of objects: List of search results
    • id string: Exa's internal result ID
    • url string: URL of the result
    • title string: Page title
    • publishedDate string (nullable): Publication date (ISO 8601) if available
    • author string (nullable): Author name if available
    • score number (nullable): Relevance score
    • text string (nullable): Full page text content (only when includeText is true)
  • requestId string: Exa request identifier for support/debugging
